A follow-up into the same portal that ignored you does very little. A short, specific note to a human on the team can do a lot.
You applied, and then silence. The instinct is to send a polite follow-up through the same application system. That rarely does anything, because the system was never the problem. The follow-up that works goes to a person.
Find the human
Identify the hiring manager or someone senior on the team you applied to. LinkedIn is enough for this. This is the person who feels the pain the role is meant to solve, and the one who can actually pull your application out of the pile.
What to say
Reference the specific role, add one line that shows you understand the work, and make it easy to respond. Do not lead with your CV or a list of your qualities.

Wait about five to seven business days after applying before this note. Send it once. If you hear nothing, one more short, friendly nudge a week later is fine. After that, let it go and keep building elsewhere.
Why this beats the portal follow-up
A message in the application system is one more item in a queue no human is reading closely. A specific message to the manager is a person recognising you exist. Even when it does not land this time, it starts a relationship that can pay off at the next opening.
